"Coming Home" To The Eastern Shore!

George Welburn & Mary Gray, both "free colored persons" residing in southeastern Delaware, were joined in marriage in October 1832 (see marriage bond to the left). Their descendants have migrated far & wide, but now it is time for all of us to Come Home.

Come Home to learn your history. Come Home to celebrate Mary & George's 176th wedding anniversary. Come Home to reconnect with your cousin you haven't seen since you were kids. Come Home because your Mama told you so. Come Home and learn that your neighbor from around the corner is actually your first cousin twice removed (we're not kidding!). Come Home so that George, Mary, and all who have come and gone before us may smile down and say, "Wow, look at what we've done!" Whatever the reason, just come.

Coming Home: A Reunion for the Descendants of Mary Gray & George Welburn may be the largest planned gathering of one African-American family on the Delmarva Peninsula, if not the East Coast. It will be held Memorial Day Weekend 2008 from Friday evening, May 23rd to Monday morning, May 26th.

Because we need to provide final numbers for our vendors and foodservice, we are no longer accepting reunion fees or registration forms.

A letter including your receipt, event locations and times was mailed to paid registrants on Wednesday, May 7th.

NOTE: As of April 11, 2008 the discounted room blocks at the Hilton Suites, Quality Inn on 54th, Flagship Oceanfront, and Plim Plaza are no longer available. If you are still searching from hotel accomodations consider the Princess Bayside Hotel (4801 Coastal Highway). Click here for website & reservations.
